Behind the Canvas: The Creative Process and My Personal Worries

Finding My Style and Inspiration

So here’s the truth: when I decided to start sharing my paintings, my brain went into full panic mode.

“What if people hate it?”
“What if it looks like a 5-year-old did it?” (for the record, my 4-year-old Sage paints too, and she’s pretty good).
“What if no one cares at all?”

Honestly, it felt safer to just… not share. But then I realised: if I wait until I’m 100% confident, I’ll be posting my first painting at age 97.

So, I hit share.

And you know what? People didn’t run screaming. In fact, they said nice things! Some even liked the behind-the-scenes bloopers more than the finished work. (Shoutout to the time my “deck chair” looked exactly like a witch’s cauldron 🧙‍♀️😂).

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  • Not every piece has to be perfect — sometimes the “oops” moments are the most relatable.

  • People love seeing the messy middle.

  • And the world won’t end if someone doesn’t like my cactus.

I haven’t sold a single piece yet (spoiler: this isn’t one of those “I launched yesterday and sold out in 24 hours!” stories). But I figure that’s the fun part — you get to be here from the very start.

So I’m painting, sharing, learning, still nervous… but moving forward anyway. Because painting makes me happy, and maybe, just maybe, it’ll make someone else smile too.

If you’re sitting there wondering whether to start something — whether it’s art, a side hustle, or just posting your sourdough bread pics — do it. Because even if it’s messy, it’s yours. And that’s kinda the whole point.

What about you? Have you ever had that “ugh, what will people think” feeling stop you from sharing something? Tell me I’m not the only one 🙃
